Denise's Battle w/ Ovarian
Cancer
My Battle w/ Ovarian Cancer since 3/31/07.
11/27/08- Denise has been extremely
ill. However 2008 Graduation will go on as planned starting
in December. But for now the offives are closed for phone calls, in fact,
our machine is full of potential student questions. However, we receive
the right to answer student priorities first, although that is running about
a week behind schedule/ Please be patient, and continue to prayer for denise
10/30/08 - BAD NEWS _-SPREAD TO MY LIVER lyphnodes and still growing,
about 13% new growth. All inoperatable. No chance for testing tumors or fluids
for a cure - They said I should just consider quality of life and stop
treatment or try something very radical which will be on hard on me as the
cancer is at this point. PLUS it will definately make me more than bald in
just 2 weeks. Either choice will shorten my life, thats just what isit is.
So I have to decide if I am strong enough to try a few more rounds of something
thats probably wont help or give my body a break and let it grow a while
and then try the new treatment in a few weeks, but they dont want me to wait
that long to decide. SO I dont really have a choice, in a week or 2 I wil
ge t the treatment and loss my hair and be even more beat than now, but at
least there is some shance as long as I am trying something. I just got to
hold out longer than the cure they just got to find in the meanwhile... thax
for your prayers, WE ALL REALLY NEED THEM. ~denise
10/23/08 - THE BIG CATSCAN TODAY - poked me 3 times and I am
totally bruised all over the place. On Monday 10/27 we find out if its the
same, better or worse. We are praying for significant reduction or a significant
increase in the tumors sizes. (Read below why we want them big if the
cant be getting smaller). Once again thank u for all your well wishes and
prayersand cards and flowers. I so love them!!! ~denise
10/6/08 - Here we go again, 5 days staight chemo followed by 10X dosage
shot that aches the bones and burns on the way in. But this is becoming routine,
so I will beat this too. In 2 weeks they test me again. We are praying
that either it is working or worse, if it isnt, then there is enough to operate
on so that we can send the cancerous stuff to CA and THEY will use it as
the guinee pig thay are using me for. They will test it until they have just
the right chemo or combos of chemo and then send the "recipe" that cured
the specimen.
Read
more about Chemo Sensitivity Resistance Assays here. It worked for a
close friend of ours, they used it for his wife who had bone cancer, she
was cured, and they also used it for his sister who had cervical cancer and
had already been treated w/ so many chemos without success. They cured her
too but it was too late, her body just gave out from all the practicing on
her instead of the specific cancer she had. PRAY FOR A CURE FOR CANCER but
MORE IMPORTANTLY PRAY THAT THINGS LIKE THIS ARE MADE KNOWN TO PEOPLE BEFORE
THE GIVE AWAY THEIR CANCEROUS TUMORS and CHARGE US FOR THE TRAVELING TO THE
LAB AS WELL, they took all 12 lbs of my tumors in the first surgery almost
2 yrs ago and said they would test it to see how it could help people in
the future, but that I had to understand, this was NOT going to help me.
I agreed to send it and help others, no one ever said I could or should send
it out to be tested just for me and then treated with the known cure for
my specific cancer. I always said they ran the cancer center like an assembly
line. The people there are great mind you, teerrific in fact, but the medical
world is keeping so much from us. I pray I have no tumors or great big ones.
Thank you for your support, love denise
9/27/08 - Well thats done, (round 1) it pretty much
was aweful. But I think it makes me feel stronger in that, if it really really
made me sick, maybe then its really really working this time. I go for tests
on monday and start round 2, 5 days straight and then the killer single 10
shot - on the 6th of Octber, completed by the 11th and then go for pet and
catscans to see if it is working. So next big news should come late October.
Since its not in any lymnodes and no organs - I can still be cured and thats
what i know so many of you have been sending me in your so many wonderful
ways. thank you - i really feel like this time its going to work, and well
- if it doesnt, on to the next one... I understand they got more stuff in
that bag of yikky tricks, one of em will suit me just right
~more in Oct... love, denise : )
9/18/08 -
Denise's new chemo is real rough, she will be done
with this round on friday and she hopes to be back in full form by Monday
9/22/08, thx for your prayers, thoughts and patience.
9/15/08 - I started another cancer treatment TOPOTECAN
today. It is very aggressive treatment involveing 5 straight days of chemo
and equally powerful followup shots to booast the red and white cells levels.
Treatment will continue 5 days in a row every other week for the next 5 weeks,
followed by those dreaded tests to see if its working. But in the meanwhile,
we are doing everything possible to get accepted in a clinical study in Houston
at MD Anderson, a leading hospital in Ovarian cancer treatment and development
of real life quality of life as well as prolonging & sustaining remissions
and even cures. I still got a chance at a "cure" since its still not in my
organs, just all over my abdomen.
Also we have found that radiation is NOT an option as the little flecks are
on sensitive areas that can not be radiated without doing more damage than
good.
So, please continue your patience, dont think you are troubling us to ask
any question concerning your apprenticeship and order deliveries.
The student is our top priority and we will not fail you. So dont feel like
you need to wait for all this to pass to continue your dreams. We have so
students graduating and opening shops, many depending on our last minute
help, so please feel free to ask us anything at anytime, it may take us a
day or 2 extra to get back to you, but we surely will.
Once again, thank you for your kindnesses which have been shared in so many
ways. I so appreciate each and everyone of you. So, if you are a mediatator,
a healer or a religious person, or just someone that wishes me well, keep
those positive thoughts moving towards getting us in MD Anderson Hospital
in Houston. cause its going to take a miracle for me to get in there without
Med Ins.
Keep up the faith poeple, I am already past my "expiration date" from the
cancer" (15-18 months)but I am a long way from letting it get me! My counts
are still strong and I have great family support and your encouragements
are like icing on a fabulous cake.
Thank you and God Bless - Expect this slight delay in services for just a
week or so, as this is all new to us again and want to give Denise a little
flexibility to do what she does best - helping others make their career goals
a reality.
9/2/08 - Starting new treatment on 9/11/08,
We still didnt find a study to get into, so they are just guessing and giving
me Navalbine chemo which is for small-cell lung or late stage breast
cancer, so I dont know if its going to help. Pray that we find a study
- soon. thx, denise
8/14/08 = BAD NEWS its still
SPREADING, good news is that it is not spreading to any organs.
So new treatment, more often and more powerful and we will try again. Its
been a heartbreak for all of us, you students included, but together with
all of our strength we will see a rainbow when its all over. We ALWAYS CLOSE
ONCE A YEAR FOR FAMILY VACATION FROM NOW TILL LABOR DAY, WE WILL DO SO
AGAIN< BUT THIS TIME TO SEEK OTHER MEDICAL OPTIONS AND FACILITIES. PLEASE
CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR GOD'S GUIDIANCE IN OUR SEARCH. Thank you, denise
8/3/08 - BIG TESTS COMING UP, AUGUST 13. I am 1/2 way thru this latest
chemo treatment plan so these tests are the real proof of whether its really
working and if I really am going into remission, or if it has only just slowed
it down a bit. Needless to say I am a nervous wreck.
I am really starting to get utterly exhausted quite quickly and for longer
period of times. Since I have constantly been on chemo virtually non-stop
since March 07 (about a year and a half now). The only breaks I got resulted
in surgery... ugh! but all successful. But now say my anxiety over the pending
tests is my biggest bellyache causer - / As always your prayers are greatly
appreciated and greatly believed in. Sincerely ~denise 8/3/08
5/8/08 -
AT LAST - It's Starting to show signs
Shrinking: Therefore I am going to do another 6 months of
chemo with the same chemo, once a week 3 weeks on and 1 week off and all
the shots in between. I asked, do we test at the end of 6 months, he said
no, in 3 months we will run tests again. Then after a long silence while
he was writing stuff - Geo asked, " will we know if she is in remission at
the end of the six months treatment? Dr. Mark S Pascall of the Hackensack
Medical Cancer Center of NJ replied very matter of factly,
We all about jumped out of our skins. This is the very first bit of good
news since it all started 15 months ago and 4 surgeries. Thank all of you
for your prayers, kind words, cards and gifts. You have all helped to heal
me. 6 more months and I should be Cancer Free for as long I can. Thank you
Lord, submitted by Denise. BTW, TEAL IS THE
COLOR OF OVARIAN CANCER RIBBONS
5/2/08 - New Catscan - IS IT WORKING?
Still Chemo every week last 6 weeks straight and over 27 daily shots spread
out over 6 weeks.
4/16/08 -Breast Cancer Biopsy
NEGATIVE!!!
3-20-08- RESULTS ARE IN - We had a terrible,
horrible, rotten, low down, miserable, very bad day, but we will not let
that get us down. no shrinking at all and there
is additional radioactive uptake. So I started yet another
type of chemo today as it is still growing, in fact there had been no shrinking
at all and thee is additional radioactive uptake. Good thing
I MADE them take both of those tests NOW, all my numbers were always good
but the tests show whats real - the good and the bad. I am learning that
I have to tell them what to do or else, they miss stuff left and right. The
new chemo is once a week every week for 6 weeks... Today's made me very sick
but I still expect to have Level 3 completed ON TIME. Thank you for your
prayers and letters and gifts and cards. They give me such a lift :
)
3-14-08- LAST TEST TAKEN - Now we
wait...
Petscan 3/10; Catscan 3/14/08 - in the meanwhile, I had emergency oral
surgery 3-11-08, Dr. Steven Lilian of Rochelle Park, NJ gave me a
very fair self pay price and fixed me up great.
3-11-08 INSURANCE worked out, all tests scheduled,
we will know everything on March 20, in
the meanwhile, I had to have emergency oral surgery, Dr. Steven Lilian of
Rochelle Park, NJ gave me a very fair self pay price and fixed me up
great.
3-1-08 INSURANCE PROBLEMS - all medical work
stopped.
Just when we are sure it FINALLY STARTING TO WORK, we are told we can't go
on without insurance, of course how can you buy another policy once you have
a diagnosed disease i just dont know.
2/27/08 - ITS FINALLY WORKING!!! For
the first time, the tumors are actually shrinking and fast. Denise had a
pretty rough 3nd round too. The next one is March 20, 2008. They want to
do tests March 14. I have great hope and faith that we are starting to get
this thing on the run. Thank you Lord!
DENISE had SURGERY NOV 12 to remove more ovarian cancer and was rushed back
to the Dr in Dec - there are fast growing lymnodes. Dec 27, She started another
regiment of chemo, something different.
1/1/08 - Submitted by Denise
The OVARIAN CANCER IS BACK, actually,
it never went away, it's been growing all along...
Dear Friends & Family, Although I just finished 6 months of intensive
chemo on 10/01/07, I remain hopeful while stating, that I have started a
New Chemo Treatment Plan. They will try several types until they find one
that works. Here's how it all played out:
10/23/07 - PETSCAN: A routine test after chemo, hoping for the all clear
that all the drs expected, but the news was bad on 10/26.
11/12/07 - Surgery removed 6 spots: But they had to leave some more flecks
behind . But I felt like something wasnt right.
12/07/07 - I was rushed back to the Dr. with a lot of pain on and got another
CATSCAN on 12/14/07, which quickly confirmed very fast growing lymnodes.
12/19/07 We got a new Dr and he sent me for a Heart test for the new chemo
drugs directly affect the heart muscle.
12/27/07 - CHEMO STARTED TODAY - something different. Let's see how it works.
Like the Dr says, It is what it is...
Thank you - I appreciate all your cards,
letters, flowers, prayers and most of all your encouraging stories &
well wishings. They really help, denise.
10/1/07 I just finished Round 6, the Final Round today.
I have lost another 5 lbs. (22 lbs in all. They are concerned about it so
I am working hard to eat more protein. However, my red & white blood
counts are up and my CA125 is way down - virtually no cancer
left!
... I am bald! (since July 4th). But its
starting to grow back all fuzzy-like, I look like a peach! I have tried all
the wigs, hats and scarfs but nothing is really comfortable and to tell you
the truth - I think more people should be aware of the neglect of the medical
system to diagnose myself and so many others since GILDA RADNER died of the
very same misdiagnosed late-stage cancer. So I am living bald all the
way and loving it. Bought some sleek long dresses and I am told I am
making it look good... who knew!
I still have no serious pains, or discomfort, or the
uncontrollable vomiting I heard so much about. Must be the $1700 we shell
out every 3 weeks for the medication to control it. Thanx for your prayers
and kind words of encouragement. I know it is helping and I am so thrilled
the eLearning Center is
OPEN!

5/3/07 - Submitted by Denise
Thank you all for all you kind thoughts & prayers.
I am doing so much better now. Gaining weight properly and going to the park
for a walk. I should be in ideal physical shape to do 2 kinds the chemo,
every 3 weeks. Definately going to lose the hair, but they guarantee it will
grow back so I will take this opportunity to play dress up which is right
up my alley ... lol
3/31/07 - Submitted by Denise - Its called,
primary
peritoneal cancer Level 3C, arguably,
ovarian cancer and all the
drs agree - I have every reason to believe this course of treatment will
yield a "CURE" by Nov. so I will take it easy for the next few months to
be sure to have the strength and take advantagous of the good days by working
online and enjoying my family who have been so wonderful to me thru this.
Once again, thank you for your thoughts, prayers, cards
& flowers, I loved every one of them and they each gave me great joy.
